Phil currently coaches the masters group for the SLOSC and is entering his sixth season as assistant coach for the Cal Poly Mustangs.
He was a standout swimmer for the Mustangs from 1999-2001 while earning his degree in biological sciences. He specialized in the breaststroke and individual medley events.
During the two years he swam for the Mustangs, he had top team finishes in the 200 breaststroke, 200 IM and 400 IM events. He also placed in the top eight at the Big West Championships twice in the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM events. Coach Phil also earned Big West Player of the Week honors in the 2000-2001 season. Phil previously served as a coach for DeAnza Cupertino Aquatics from 1997-2000. He also volunteers in the local community and from 2001-2007, worked in the fruit science department at Cal Poly, managing the citrus/avocado/deciduous fruit orchards on campus. He managed 50 acres that provided research and development opportunities for the Ag Science departments. |
